Frequently Asked Questions
Does this actually remove my sensitive content, or just cover it visually?
Important: it only covers matching text with a black box — it does not delete the underlying text or image data from the file. Anyone with the file can still recover the covered content by copying text or removing the box in a PDF editor. Do not use this to prepare a document for sharing where the covered content must not be recoverable.
How does it decide what to black out?
It searches the PDF's real embedded text for your exact word or phrase (case-insensitive) and draws a black box over every match it finds, on every page.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No — scanned (image-only) PDFs have no embedded text to search. Try OCR PDF first, then use the OCR PDF/Word output to find the exact text to redact.
Is my file sent to a server?
No. Processing happens entirely in your browser.
