Plain number vs. "Page X of Y"
"Page X of Y" is useful for documents people will print, since it tells the reader how many pages remain — handy for a long report or contract. A plain number is more compact and reads cleaner for shorter or informal documents.
What to know before relying on it
Numbering always starts at 1 on the first page — there's no option to start from a different number or number only a subset of pages. Font size and color are fixed rather than customizable.

- "I need numbering to start from a later page (like after a cover page)." Not currently supported — numbering always begins at 1 on page 1.
- "I want the numbers in the top-left or bottom-left." Only bottom-center, bottom-right, and top-right are currently available.
