Why byte size isn't the same as character count
Byte size is measured in UTF-8 encoding, where a plain English letter uses 1 byte, but characters like emoji, accented letters, or non-Latin scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, etc.) can use 2–4 bytes each. This matters for platforms and systems with a byte limit rather than a character limit — text that looks short in character count can be much larger in actual byte size if it contains non-Latin characters or emoji.
